An AI agent platform is software for building AI agents that understand a request, decide what to do and act on it through your tools, with a person approving or taking over where needed. The best one depends on the job the agent does. For internal work across Microsoft 365, Copilot Studio is the natural fit. For automating workflows across hundreds of apps, n8n. For a single person or small team building their own agents cheaply, MindStudio. For enterprise IT teams that need governance, StackAI or Relevance AI. For agents that talk to your customers, Botpress, Intercom Fin or HiQBot.

We make HiQBot, so read this list knowing that. Every fact about the other seven comes from the vendor's own page, read on 31 October 2026 and linked below, and prices appear only where that page showed one. We did not build production agents on the other platforms, and where a figure is the vendor's own, we say so.

The short answer

There is no best AI agent platform for everyone, because the products on most lists do different jobs. Pick by the job first:

  • Agents for your own staff, inside Microsoft tools: Microsoft Copilot Studio.
  • Agents that run steps across many business apps: n8n, which you can also host yourself.
  • A low-cost start for one person or a small team: MindStudio, with a free plan.
  • Governed agents across a large company: StackAI or Relevance AI.
  • A support agent you design yourself, with a helpdesk behind it: Botpress.
  • An AI agent on top of the helpdesk your support team already uses: Intercom Fin.
  • An AI agent and live chat that sell and support on website chat, WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, Telegram and LINE, without building anything: HiQBot.

What an AI agent platform is

An AI agent platform gives you a place to define what an agent knows, which tools it may use, when it must ask a person, and where it runs. Unlike a chatbot that follows a fixed script, an agent decides its next step itself, inside limits you set. The AI agent builder platforms on today's lists fall into three kinds:

  • Builders for internal work. Copilot Studio, n8n, MindStudio, StackAI and Relevance AI help staff automate research, approvals, reports and hand-offs between apps.
  • Enterprise orchestration. StackAI and Relevance AI add governance on top: access control, audit logs, private deployment and compliance reports, for IT teams running many agents.
  • Customer conversation platforms. Botpress, Intercom Fin and HiQBot put the agent in front of customers, where it answers, takes actions and passes the chat to a person.

The kind matters more than any single feature. A general builder can be shaped into a customer support agent, but you supply the channels, the inbox and the handover yourself. A customer conversation platform includes those, and does less outside them.

No-code, low-code or code: which you actually need

Most AI agent building tools now call themselves no-code. In practice there are three levels:

  • Configure, don't build. You describe your business, upload your material and switch on actions. HiQBot and Intercom Fin work this way for customer conversations.
  • No-code AI agent platform with a canvas. You design the agent's steps and tools visually. Copilot Studio, StackAI, MindStudio and Botpress describe their builders like this.
  • Low-code AI agent platform. Visual building plus code where you need it. MindStudio lets you add JavaScript or Python, and n8n mixes workflow nodes with agents.

If nobody on your team will maintain a workflow canvas, a configure-only product for your specific job usually lasts longer than a flexible builder that only one person understands.

Is there a free AI agent builder?

Yes, with limits. On 31 October 2026, MindStudio's page offered a free plan at $0 a month plus model usage, with one agent and 1,000 runs a month. n8n says agents can be self-hosted to keep data in-house, which moves the cost to your own servers. Botpress says you can try it free with no card. Copilot Studio offers a free Azure account with a $200 credit on its page, but the product itself is sold in credit packs. Most customer conversation platforms, HiQBot included, offer a time-limited trial instead of a free plan.

The eight AI agent platforms

Microsoft Copilot Studio

Microsoft calls Copilot Studio "a platform for creating and managing custom agents, workflows, and apps with no code", built with natural language or a graphical interface. Agents can be published internally, to websites or to social channels, and used in Teams, SharePoint and Copilot Chat. On its page, Copilot Studio is sold in packs of 25,000 Copilot Credits at $200 a month per pack, or pay as you go, and needs an Azure subscription.

Best for: organisations already on Microsoft 365 that want agents for employees. microsoft.com

n8n

n8n adds AI agents to its workflow automation: an agent step inside a workflow, and autonomous agents with memory for longer, judgement-heavy work. You build them in its Agent Builder or by describing them to its AI Assistant, connect them to 600+ integrations and 9,000+ community templates, and can self-host to keep data in-house. One turn with an agent counts as one execution.

Best for: technical teams automating work across many apps, especially those that want to self-host. n8n.io

Relevance AI

Relevance AI sells an enterprise platform for teams of AI agents, with Invent, which it calls "Your 24/7 AI solutions engineer", to find and build what to automate. Its examples lean towards sales: account research, meeting briefs, follow-ups and prospecting, plus customer success, marketing and HR. It lists role-based access, SSO, audit logs, human approvals, SOC 2 and GDPR. No prices on its homepage.

Best for: enterprise sales and go-to-market teams. relevanceai.com

StackAI

StackAI describes itself as a drag-and-drop no-code platform "built for IT teams to orchestrate, deploy, govern, and scale AI across the entire enterprise". It runs as multi-tenant cloud, in a private cloud or on-premise, works with several model providers, and claims HIPAA, GDPR, SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001. No prices on its homepage.

Best for: enterprise IT in regulated industries. stackai.com

MindStudio

MindStudio offers a visual builder, "no coding required", with JavaScript or Python for custom functions, and access to over 200 AI models without separate provider accounts. Agents can run as web apps, on a schedule, from email, as browser extensions or behind webhooks. Its page lists a free plan ($0 a month plus usage, one agent, 1,000 runs a month) and an Individual plan at $20 a month plus usage.

Best for: individuals and small teams building their own agents on a budget. mindstudio.ai

Botpress

Botpress calls itself "The AI-native customer support platform". Its Studio is a visual AI agent builder, and Desk is a helpdesk behind it. Agents run on webchat, WhatsApp and Slack, connect to Intercom, Zendesk, HubSpot and Salesforce, and hand a conversation to a person with the history and the steps already tried. It states no per-seat cost and offers a free trial without a card.

Best for: a support team that wants to design its own agent logic. botpress.com

Intercom Fin

Fin is Intercom's customer-facing AI agent, offered for service, sales, ecommerce and success. It works on chat, email, Slack and social channels, hands conversations to your team with context in Intercom or in Salesforce, Zendesk, HubSpot or Freshdesk, and learns from its own conversations. Intercom reports a 76% average resolution rate, its own figure. Pricing is outcome-based, with no amount on the page.

HiQBot

HiQBot is ours. It is a conversational platform for customer service, with AI agents and live chat on website chat, WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, Telegram and LINE. You do not build the agent from blank steps: you pick your industry from twelve, add your documents, website pages or product list, choose the details the agent collects, and connect your channels. The agent then qualifies, answers, books appointments, takes order or reservation requests and opens tickets, and hands the chat to a teammate or takes details for follow-up when it should.

For the parts you do want to script, guided flows on the messaging apps use ready-made steps, with the AI agent answering questions mid-flow. Read how the AI customer service agent works, or see it on WhatsApp.

Best for: a small or mid-sized business that wants an AI agent talking to its customers on the chat apps they use, with its team in the same inbox.

The best AI agent builder for each job

  • Answering and booking customers on WhatsApp, Instagram and your website: HiQBot, or Botpress if you want to design the logic yourself.
  • Resolving support tickets on your current helpdesk: Intercom Fin or Botpress.
  • Automating back-office steps across apps: n8n or MindStudio.
  • Employee agents inside Microsoft 365: Copilot Studio.
  • Many governed agents across a large company: StackAI or Relevance AI.
  • A custom agent built for you: any of the builders above with a partner, or our own AI agent development service.

If the agent's job is customer chat, compare it against our list of conversational AI platforms as well, which covers that category in more depth.

Where HiQBot fits, and where it does not

HiQBot fits when the agent's job is your customers: selling, booking and supporting in chat, with live chat behind it, industry tuning, and WooCommerce, HubSpot, Google Calendar and Jira connected. Plans are fixed monthly prices with prepaid credits, so a busy month does not produce a surprise bill.

It is the wrong choice if you need:

  • a general builder to design any agent from scratch, step by step;
  • agents for internal work such as HR, IT tickets or finance approvals;
  • your own custom tools, webhooks or a public API, or Zapier;
  • to choose the AI model or bring your own model key;
  • to host it yourself.

For those, a builder from this list will serve you better.

Common questions

What is the best AI agent platform?

The one built for your agent's job. For employee agents in Microsoft 365, Copilot Studio. For automation across apps, n8n. For enterprise governance, StackAI or Relevance AI. For customer conversations on chat apps, HiQBot, Botpress or Intercom Fin.

What is a no-code AI agent platform?

A platform where you create an agent without writing code, by describing it in plain language, arranging steps on a canvas, or configuring settings. Copilot Studio, StackAI, MindStudio and Botpress describe themselves as no-code. HiQBot is no-code too, set up by configuration for customer conversations.

Is there a free AI agent builder?

MindStudio listed a free plan on 31 October 2026, with one agent and 1,000 runs a month plus model usage. n8n can be self-hosted. Most others offer a trial.

What are AI agent development platforms?

The same products seen from a developer's side: tools to build, test, deploy and monitor agents, often with code options, version control and API access. n8n and MindStudio offer code alongside visual building.

Can I use a general AI agent builder for customer support?

Yes, but you assemble the rest: the chat channels, an inbox for your team, handover rules and reporting. Customer conversation platforms such as Botpress, Fin and HiQBot include those, which is why they are usually quicker to put in front of customers.
