WhatsApp automation tools in 2026: the five kinds of automation and six tools compared

A WhatsApp automation tool answers, sorts and follows up WhatsApp messages for your business without someone typing each reply, through the official WhatsApp Business API. WhatsApp automation comes in five kinds: auto-replies, guided flows, an AI agent, broadcasts, and follow-ups triggered by events such as a booking. The best WhatsApp automation tool is the one that covers the kinds you need on the plan you can afford, and that hands a chat to a person when automation should stop.
We make HiQBot, so read this knowing that. Every fact about the other five tools comes from their own pricing page, read on 31 October 2026 and linked below, and HiQBot's price comes from our live pricing the same day. Meta's message charges are extra on every tool here.
The short answer
- Keyword bots and flows on a budget: WATI, with automation triggers on every plan.
- A flow builder from the first plan: Gallabox.
- Workflows across several messaging apps: respond.io or SleekFlow, from their second tier.
- Indian businesses adding a bot as an add-on: AiSensy.
- Flows with an AI agent inside them, plus live chat: HiQBot.
Five kinds of WhatsApp business automations
- Auto-replies. A fixed answer to a keyword, a greeting for new chats, an away message out of hours. Every tool here does this; the free WhatsApp Business app does a little of it too.
- Guided flows. A scripted conversation with buttons and lists: pick a service, choose a time, leave a phone number. Good for journeys you want to control.
- An AI agent. Reads what people type and answers from your own material, so a question you never scripted still gets a real answer. The newer tools combine this with flows.
- Broadcasts. One approved template sent to many people at once, paced to Meta's limits. See our WhatsApp broadcast page for how sending works.
- Event follow-ups. A message sent when something happens: a booking confirmation, a reminder the day before, a shipping update.
Behind all five sits one more question: what happens when automation should stop? A good WhatsApp business API for automation passes the chat to a person with the history attached, instead of looping the customer back to the menu.

Official API or a browser extension?
Some "WhatsApp automation tools" are browser extensions that click through WhatsApp Web for you. The one we found in today's results describes itself as independent and not affiliated with WhatsApp. Tools like that work against a personal or app account rather than the official API, which puts the number at risk and cannot send approved templates at scale. Every tool in this guide uses the official WhatsApp Business API, which is the route Meta supports for business automation.
The six tools
WATI
WATI counts automation in triggers: 1,000 a month on Growth ($39 a month billed annually), 2,000 on Pro ($79) and 5,000 on Business ($199), with extra triggers sold at $25 a month. Pro adds advanced chatbots and forms. AI credits run from 250 to 1,500 a month by plan.
respond.io
On respond.io, workflows and AI agents start on Growth at $159 a month billed yearly; Starter covers the inbox without them. Advanced adds HTTP requests and webhooks inside workflows, for teams connecting their own systems.

SleekFlow
SleekFlow's Essential plan has simple automations; its Flow Builder and AI agents start on Pro at US$109 a month, with up to 100 active flows. Premium adds HTTP request and webhook automations.
Gallabox
Gallabox includes a chatbot flow builder on every plan, from five active flows on Basic ($112 a month billed annually) to 100 on Advanced. AI agents on WhatsApp and Instagram start on Essential.

AiSensy
AiSensy sells its drag-and-drop chatbot builder as an add-on at ₹2,500 a month, with keyword, template, QR and Meta-ad triggers, cart management and catalogue sharing. Its AI Agent Builder is a separate add-on at ₹1,350 a month including 1,000 AI messages.
HiQBot
HiQBot is ours. On WhatsApp, a guided flow greets every new chat with reply buttons or a list, asks for a name or phone number, books a free time, tags the contact and hands to the AI agent or your team. When a customer types a question the flow does not cover, the AI agent answers it and offers a Continue button back to the step. Event automations send a booking confirmation, a reminder the day before or a shipping update. Plans start at $49 a month; see HiQBot pricing.
HiQBot does not start a flow from a keyword typed in a chat or from a broadcast, and flows cannot send video or files. See how it works on the WhatsApp chatbot page.
How to choose a WhatsApp automation tool
- List the five kinds above and mark the ones you need now.
- Check which plan includes them. On respond.io and SleekFlow, flows and AI start on the second tier; on WATI, automation is counted in triggers.
- Ask what happens when a customer types something the flow did not expect.
- Check how a person takes over, and whether they see the whole chat.
- Add Meta's message charges for the countries you serve.
Common questions
